    Development and construction of China

    Libraries in China's higher education institutions have been developing in keeping pace with the flourishing development of China's higher education. This article aims to make an introduction to the construction of China's higher education libraries, especially the recent three decades' achievements since China's reform and opening-up in 1978. In this article, the authors draw a general picture of the development of libraries in China's higher education institutions, covering such eight aspects as management, types and positioning, organizational structure and personnel, expenditure and buildings, reader service, building and sharing of resources as well as automation system.</p

    Normal Red Blood Cell Count Reference Values in Chinese Presenile Women Given by Geographical Area

    Background/PurposeWe aimed to standardize the normal reference value of red blood cell (RBC) counts in Chinese presenile women using an underlying scientific basis.MethodsThis research was conducted to study the relationship between the normal reference value of 31,405 RBC samples from presenile women in eight different geographical areas in China. RBC counts were determined using a microscopic counting method.ResultsThere was a significant correlation between geographical factors and the normal reference RBC value in presenile women (F = 187.82, p = 0.000). Using stepwise regression analysis, one regression equation was obtained.ConclusionIf geographical values are obtained in a certain area, the normal RBC reference value in presenile women in this area can be obtained using the regression equation

    Towards Domain-Independent and Real-Time Gesture Recognition Using mmWave Signal

    Human gesture recognition using millimeter wave (mmWave) signals provides attractive applications including smart home and in-car interface. While existing works achieve promising performance under controlled settings, practical applications are still limited due to the need of intensive data collection, extra training efforts when adapting to new domains (i.e. environments, persons and locations) and poor performance for real-time recognition. In this paper, we propose DI-Gesture, a domain-independent and real-time mmWave gesture recognition system. Specifically, we first derive the signal variation corresponding to human gestures with spatial-temporal processing. To enhance the robustness of the system and reduce data collecting efforts, we design a data augmentation framework based on the correlation between signal patterns and gesture variations. Furthermore, we propose a dynamic window mechanism to perform gesture segmentation automatically and accurately, thus enable real-time recognition. Finally, we build a lightweight neural network to extract spatial-temporal information from the data for gesture classification. Extensive experimental results show DI-Gesture achieves an average accuracy of 97.92%, 99.18% and 98.76% for new users, environments and locations, respectively. In real-time scenario, the accuracy of DI-Gesutre reaches over 97% with average inference time of 2.87ms, which demonstrates the superior robustness and effectiveness of our system.Comment: The paper is submitted to the journal of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.     Estimation of swell height using spaceborne GNSS-R data from eight CYGNSS satellites

    Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) technology has opened a new window for ocean remote sensing because of its unique advantages, including short revisit period, low observation cost, and high spatial-temporal resolution. In this article, we investigated the potential of estimating swell height from delay-Doppler maps (DDMs) data generated by spaceborne GNSS-R. Three observables extracted from the DDM are introduced for swell height estimation, including delay-Doppler map average (DDMA), the leading edge slope (LES) of the integrated delay waveform (IDW), and trailing edge slope (TES) of the IDW. We propose one modeling scheme for each observable. To improve the swell height estimation performance of a single observable-based method, we present a data fusion approach based on particle swarm optimization (PSO). Furthermore, a simulated annealing aided PSO (SA-PSO) algorithm is proposed to handle the problem of local optimal solution for the PSO algorithm. Extensive testing has been performed and the results show that the swell height estimated by the proposed methods is highly consistent with reference data, i.e., the ERA5 swell height. The correlation coefficient (CC) is 0.86 and the root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.56 m. Particularly, the SA-PSO method achieved the best performance, with RMSE, CC, and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) being 0.39 m, 0.92, and 18.98%, respectively.     Chinese Elderly Residents' Willingness to Use Integrated Medical and Nursing Care:a Meta-analysis

    BackgroundWith aging deepening, there is an increasing demand for medical and elderly care services in Chinese older residents. However, current medical and pension services are still in a state of disconnection. In this regard, integrated medical and nursing care could continuously satisfy their multi-level healthcare needs via orderly combining medical and nursing care resources.ObjectiveTo comprehensively analyze the willingness of Chinese elderly residents to use integrated medical and nursing care.MethodsThe literature on the willingness of Chinese elderly residents to use integrated medical and nursing care was searched in databases including CNKI, WanFang Data, CQVIP, PubMed and Web of Science from inception to December, 2020. Data of studies satisfying the inclusion criteria were extracted and meta-analyzed. The literature quality was evaluated by using the current situation survey bias risk assessment criteria (JBI) .ResultsA total of 20 articles were included. The effective sample size of the study was 14 089 cases, and 4 268 residents were willing to participate. The JBI scores of the literature included in the study were 14-18 points, which were greater than 70% of the total score. The quality of the literature included in the study was high. The overall rate of Chinese elderly residents&apos; willingness to use integrated medical and nursing care was 40.5%〔95%CI (33.3%, 47.7%) 〕. Results of subgroup analysis demonstrated that educational background〔OR (95%CI) =0.71 (0.59, 0.85) , P&lt;0.01〕, number of children〔OR (95%CI) =1.72 (1.40, 2.11) , P&lt;0.01〕, marital status〔OR (95%CI) =0.71 (0.57, 0.88) , P=0.02〕, whether living alone〔OR (95%CI) =1.30 (1.14, 1.49) , P&lt;0.01〕, disease prevalence〔OR (95%CI) =1.34 (1.09, 1.64) , P&lt;0.01〕 and awareness of integrated medical and nursing care〔OR (95%CI) =1.91 (1.61, 2.26) , P&lt;0.01〕 were associated with these residents&apos; willingness to use integrated medical and nursing care.ConclusionThe rate of Chinese elderly residents&apos; willingness to use integrated medical and nursing care was relatively low. High school education or above, number of children≤1, unmarried, living alone, having an illness, and knowing integrated medical and nursing care were associated with stronger willingness to use integrated medical and nursing care. To improve the level of willingness, it is of great necessity to strengthen the publicity of integrated medical and nursing care, establish diversified medical and nursing care homes, and continuously enrich integrated medical and nursing care services

    Annual 30-m big Lake Maps of the Tibetan Plateau in 1991–2018

    Lake systems on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) are important for the supply and storage of fresh water to billions of people. However, previous studies on the dynamics of these lakes focused on monitoring on multi-year scales and therefore lack sufficient temporal information. Here we present a new dataset comprising annual maps of big lakes (>10 km2) on the TP for 1991–2018, generated by utilizing all available Landsat images in conjunction with Google Earth Engine. The annual lake maps with high overall accuracy (~96%) highlight distinctive lake distribution and lake changes: (1) about 70% number and area of lakes concentrated in the Inner basin; (2) generally increasing trends in both the area (by 33%) and number (by 30%) of lakes from 1991 to 2018; (3) the total area changes were dominated by larger lakes (>50 km2) while more fluctuations in the lake number changes were found in medium lakes (10−50 km2). Our dataset infills temporal gaps in long-term inter-annual variations of big lakes, contributing towards enhanced knowledge of TP lake systems

    Alterations in cellular metabolism under different grades of glioma staging identified based on a multi-omics analysis strategy

    Glioma is a type of brain tumor closely related to abnormal cell metabolism. Firstly, multiple combinatorial sequencing studies have revealed this relationship. Genomic studies have identified gene mutations and gene expression disorders related to the development of gliomas, which affect cell metabolic pathways. In addition, transcriptome studies have revealed the genes and regulatory networks that regulate cell metabolism in glioma tissues. Metabonomics studies have shown that the metabolic pathway of glioma cells has changed, indicating their distinct energy and nutritional requirements. This paper focuses on the retrospective analysis of multiple groups combined with sequencing to analyze the changes in various metabolites during metabolism in patients with glioma. Finally, the changes in genes, regulatory networks, and metabolic pathways regulating cell metabolism in patients with glioma under different metabolic conditions were discussed. It is also proposed that multi-group metabolic analysis is expected to better understand the mechanism of abnormal metabolism of gliomas and provide more personalized methods and guidance for early diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis evaluation of gliomas

    Unraveling the mechanisms of NK cell dysfunction in aging and Alzheimer’s disease: insights from GWAS and single-cell transcriptomics

    BackgroundAging is an important factor in the development of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The senescent cells can be recognized and removed by NK cells. However, NK cell function is gradually inactivated with age. Therefore, this study used senescence as an entry point to investigate how NK cells affect AD.MethodsThe study validated the correlation between cognition and aging through a prospective cohort of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. A cellular trajectory analysis of the aging population was performed using single-cell nuclear transcriptome sequencing data from patients with AD and different ages. The genome-wide association study (GWAS) cohort of AD patients was used as the outcome event, and the expression quantitative trait locus was used as an instrumental variable. Causal associations between genes and AD were analyzed by bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) and co-localization. Finally, clinical cohorts were constructed to validate the expression of key genes.ResultsA correlation between cognition and aging was demonstrated using 2,171 older adults over 60 years of age. Gene regulation analysis revealed that most of the highly active transcription factors were concentrated in the NK cell subpopulation of AD. NK cell trajectories were constructed for different age populations. MR and co-localization analyses revealed that CHD6 may be one of the factors influencing AD.ConclusionWe explored different levels of AD and aging from population cohorts, single-cell data, and GWAS cohorts and found that there may be some correlations of NK cells between aging and AD. It also provides some basis for potential causation

    Genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening for drug resistance in tumors

    Genome-wide clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR associated nuclease 9 (Cas9) screening is a simple screening method for locating loci under specific conditions, and it has been utilized in tumor drug resistance research for finding potential drug resistance-associated genes. This screening strategy has significant implications for further treatment of malignancies with acquired drug resistance. In recent years, studies involving genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening have gradually increased. Here we review the recent application of genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening for drug resistance, involving mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway inhibitors, poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi), alkylating agents, mitotic inhibitors, antimetabolites, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CDKI). We summarize drug resistance pathways such as the KEAP1/Nrf2 pathway MAPK pathway, and NF-κB pathway. Also, we analyze the limitations and conditions for the application of genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening techniques

    High-efficiency 100-W Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb:YAG thin-disk oscillator

    We demonstrate a Kerr-lens mode-locked femtosecond Yb:YAG thin-disk oscillator and investigate the approach to increase the optical-to-optical efficiency based on the scheme of direct multiple passes of the laser beam through the thin-disk medium. With twelve passes through the thin disk, 266-fs pulses were delivered from the oscillator with an average power of 105.6 W at a repetition rate of 20 MHz. The corresponding optical-to-optical efficiency is 31.1%, which is, to the best of our knowledge, the highest efficiency of any mode-locked thin-disk oscillator with pulse duration below 300 fs. This demonstration paves the way to even more efficient mode-locked femtosecond thin-disk oscillators, and provides an excellent laser source for the applications such as non-linear frequency conversion and high-precision industrial processing
